Home Depot is a supplies retailing company that is focused on selling tools, construction products, and services. Headquartered in Georgia and operates chains of superstores across the US, Canada, and Mexico. It is also the largest home improvement dealer in the US.
The Home Depot superstores are averagely 105,000 ft² in size which means it is usually big enough to house a lot of tools and supplies in any location. Its largest stores are in New Jersey (217,000 ft²) and California (204,000 ft²).
So far Home Depot’s marketing strategy has continued to evolve. At first the slogan Home Depot was known was “You Can Do It”. It changed to “We Can Help” in 2003 and later became “More Saving. More Doing” in 2009. That so far isn’t all it has worked with. They once used the “The Home Depot, Low Prices Are Just The Beginning” and “The Home Depot: First In Home Improvement”.
History of Home Depot
The company was created in 1978 by Bernard Marcus, Pat Farah, Arthur Blank and Ron Brik. Today the company has 2,274 different store locations and about 385, 000 employees.
At the inception of such a great company, its founders (Bernie & Arthur) had no with how revolutionary the company was going to get. With the their revolutionary service comes the following core values:
- Having respect for all people
- Giving back to the community of every store location and the world in general
- Providing excellent customer service
- Building strong relationship with their millions of customers
- Doing the right thing at every step of the way
- Taking care of their own employees
- Creating value for every shareholder and
- Building the entrepreneurial spirit, at the same time keeping the spirit alive in all and sundry
All these come into perspective by how they relate with their customers, front-line assistants, field support and corporate support people.
Home Depot Competitor Break
HomeDepot might be the leading home supply retailing company but there’s always a rival at the end of the line. Someone who might be doing better because of their thought process or mode of interaction in every business is inevitable. The Home Depot rivalry this time happens to be Lowe’s.
While Lowe’s started out in 1946, Home Depot was founded in 1978. Does this mean there’s a conspiracy theory falling on the shoulders of Home Depot and Lowe’s? Well, maybe Yes. Or it’s just a silly mix up.
It has been said times and times again that the relationship between Home Depot and Lowe’s is that of ‘Marriage’ and ‘Divorce’. So be it a rumour with no basis or not Home Depot and Lowe’s are always found within the same location, flying the same flag of home supplies. These supplies and services they both offer falls within the following:
- Home appliances
- Building hardware
- Building materials
- Garden supplies
- …and lots more…
All basically home improvement supplies. But as one would ask, “What is the point of the steady drag?” when most likely Home Depot deals with the contractors and builders themselves. Lowe’s, on the other hand, handles the DIY crafts and the materials necessary for completing these crafts.
